1.0 Brief
A few decades ago, the term emotional intelligence was disregarded as sheer propaganda. In fact, most people would have considered it an oxymoron. Recent studies however indicate that emotional intelligence is the unusual identifier that sets star performers apart from the rest of the pack even though many believe this is an absurdity that tries to divide people. Reality however is that emotional intelligence affects how we manage behaviour, navigate social complexities and make personal decisions that achieve better results both at home and in the work place. As a leader, are you aware of your personal and social competencies or does this work for you by default? Are you in tune with yourself and your emotions?
Emotions not only matter but have a huge impact on the day to day operations. They impact our attention span, memory, learning speed and decision-making patterns, to mention a few. It is imperative that all professionals learn to identify and regulate their emotions to enjoy healthy relationships and thrive at work. Leaders would also benefit greatly from learning to channel people’s emotions so as to inspire productivity and efficiency.
