The internet is home to a vibrant and thriving criminal ecosystem, with a resilient fraud trade at the center of the action. Inaccurately portrayed as a playground for hitmen and human traffickers, the Internet is, instead, a place where fraudsters leverage tools, tactics, and technology to build scalable business models, collect and co-opt sensitive data, and exploit organizations around the clock. Cyber criminals take advantage of this data to run large-scale fraud schemes and execute opportunistic attacks. Ever since the introduction of the first e-commerce marketplaces such as Amazon and eBay, criminals have been copying and adapting the most effective techniques and marketing strategies to further their illicit dark web operations. The shift from peer-to-peer transactions to fully automated business models revolutionized criminal enterprises and expanded the scale of the underground economy to unprecedented levels. However, with the broader expansion and increased accessibility came scrutiny from the research community and law enforcement.
This webinar will explore the bustling market for fraud data by identifying which data types are most valuable and widely traded. It will also look at how this data trade impacts organizational security and ongoing digital risk. You will gain an understanding of how data in the fraud economy links back to fraud threats companies face every day, and how criminals exploit gaps in the way businesses think about data.
