THEME: THE SUCCESSFUL FORENSIC AUDITOR IN CONTEMPORARY TIMES
Overview
World over spectacular losses, corporate collapses and major economic scandals have become regular business news item. This has drawn the lime light on company directors, owners and regulators on below the mark corporate governance practices, failure of risk management strategies and the widespread existence of unethical business practices. Technological advancements, change of workplace values and inadequate know-how on the part of audit, accounts and risk managers are some of the major contributors to this.
There is a general acceptance that unethical business behavior directly or indirectly accounts for major losses, often estimated to be between 2 and 5% of turnover, which severely damages the reputation and morale of companies. However, despite being one the largest unmanaged risks in companies today, many managers still receive virtually no formal training on how to identify the red flags, deal with them and most importantly become resistant to all forms of unethical business behavior, including fraud and corruption.
