(established under the Accountant Act, Laws of Kenya)

THE 2nd ACCOUNTANTS CONVENTION

VENUE: PROTEA HOTEL BY MARRIOTT, KAMPALA, UGANDA.

DATE: 7th to 9th August 2019

A.  OVERVIEW

The world today is a global village characterized with very dynamic operating environments influenced by among other things; cultural, legal and economic matters. The accounting professional bodies have responded by developing expectations on their members to meet a set standard. Regionally, the East African nations formed the EAC regional block in order to realize economic benefits.

Professional accountants in the EAC just like other accountants in the world face many challenges in the course of their duties. The main one being the dynamism in operations in the discipline. The integration of EAC was expected to benefit accountants in the region through labor and capital mobility – years later, full benefits are yet to be realized. The EAC nations have also been implementing key governance reforms relating to legal reforms, adoption of IPSAS and developing robust PFM frameworks.

This year’s convention, being the second one, has been organized to analyse the following topics:

  • IPSAS Journey in the Region: Milestones and Challenges
  • Achieving Debt Sustainability in the Region
  • The Evolving Role of An Accountant: From a Traditional Bean Counter to a Trusted Business Advisor
  • An Overview of Recent Financial Reporting Standards
  • Entrenching Sound Public Finance Management Practices
  • Taxation of Regional Blocs: A Case for EAC
  • The Future Accountant and Emerging Frontiers

This Convention will be most beneficial to delegates drawn from both the public and private sectors. This convention is not limited to the accountancy profession only, staff from other units are highly encouraged to attend.
