THE INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA
(Established under the Accountant Act, Laws of Kenya)
Tax Management for Public Benefit Organizations
Date: 25th –26th July, 2019
Venue: Cold Springs Hotels – Homabay, Nyanza Branch
Brief
Public Benefit Organizations (PBOs) complement government in provision of key services to the citizens. Despite devolution of governance and resources, most Kenyans still depend on the services offered by the PBOs. The PBOs on the other hand operate within strict legislation including taxation, which greatly affect the conduct of their operations.
While PBOs are exempted from income taxes, they are not exempted from other taxes such as value added tax, employment taxes for their employees and customs. These taxes affect the budgets of the organizations and in return the goals/objectives set may not be attained.
The above circumstances notwithstanding, NPOs are expected to be tax compliant. Not only to avoid incurring penalties and fines but also to preserve their corporate image. It is on the back of the above dynamics that the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya has organized a tax management workshop for PBOs with the following topics for discussion:
- Emerging issues on taxation of PBOs from the 2019/2020 budget
- Tax planning for PBOs
- Applicable tax exemptions and procedures for NPOs
- Tax incentives arising from the PBO act vs the pre-existing KRA incentives
- Possible tax disputes and resolution for PBOs
Target Audience
This workshop will be most beneficial to Practitioners, Leadership Boards of PBO’s, Managers; Accountants & Finance personnel in Charities, Aid Organizations, Trusts, Auditors of PBOs, Foundations & Faith-Based Organizations, Consultants (especially those dealing with PBO’s), Compliance Officers, Accountants aspiring to work with PBOs and PBO Sector Regulators.
