New Managers Leadership Seminar
Date: 8th – 9th November 2023
Time: 9.00am-3.30pm
Mode of Delivery: Online
Overview
Being a new manager is exciting and it is a complex relationship-fuelled position. Whether you’re a seasoned veteran in a new role or a brand-new leader, everyone will be watching you. There is only a small window of time when you have the full attention of the workforce, so your actions need to be carefully considered. It means you have an opportunity to make a massive impact if you take advantage of all the attention on you in those early days. This is when the new leader sets the tone for how the organization will be run under their leadership.
While the new manager has been recognized for the technical, self and interpersonal skills, management is a minefield. They must learn how to lead others rather than do the work themselves, to motivate, manage their peers, earn trust and respect, and to strike the right balance between delegation and control. It is a transition many find challenging to make. One thing that remains consistent across the board is that a manager’s role is ultimately to support and lead their people to be the best they can be. It’s not about the authority, the control or the power.
Leadership, for better or for worse directly affects the level of engagement and commitment an employee feels towards their organization. It is of great importance to understand that leadership is an essential part of an effective management. A manager must have traits of a leader, i.e., he/she must possess leadership qualities. Leaders develop and begin strategies that build and sustain a competitive advantage.
