THE INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA
(Established under the Accountants Act, Laws of Kenya)
IPSAS Accrual Basis
Theme: Actualizing the Transition from Cash to Accrual Basis
Date: 30th November 2023
Time: 4 – 6 PM
Venue: Online
OVERVIEW:
The standards setting process continues to produce standards and other technical guidance for use by governments and markets across the globe. These standards provide a framework for effectively reporting transactions within the corporate and public sectors. International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) are designed for reporting in the public sector and are prepared and produced by the IPSAS Board.
The IPSASs have been in use for many years, and now the Board is of the view that the objectives of financial reporting can best be achieved by adoption of the accrual IPSAS. Consequently, the IPSASB encourages governments and other public sector entities to present financial statements that comply with the requirements of the accrual IPSAS.
The Institute supports this intended shift by the public sector towards adopting the accrual basis of financial reporting. It is for this reason that a Webinar has been planned to provide more updates and insights on the status of the IPSAS transition and what to anticipate in the process.
To get these updates and other guidance relevant to the Kenyan market, the following areas will be addressed during the Webinar.
• The difference between Cash Basis IPSAS and Accrual Basis IPSAS
• Requirements of IPSAS 33 First-time Adoption of Accrual Basis IPSASs
• Disclosure requirements
• Advantages of IPSAS Accrual Basis accounting
• Challenges in transitioning to IPSAS Accrual
• Recommendations and the Way forward in the transition
