Overview

The International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF) standards detail the tasks that must be completed in an internal audit, establishes the ethical requirements, defines who is qualified to conduct an internal audit, and lists the resources that must be available to auditors. The IPPF is a framework that is designed to standardize how internal audits are done. There are mandatory guidelines and suggested guidelines. The mandatory guidelines are the minimum standards that internal auditors must follow. The suggested guidelines provide more guidance on how best to do an internal audit.

Internal auditing is an independent, objective assurance and consulting activity designed to add value and improve an organization’s operations. It helps an organization accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes. Throughout the world, internal auditing is performed in diverse environments and within organizations that vary in purpose, size, and structure. In addition, the laws and customs within various countries differ from one another. These differences may affect the practice of internal auditing in each environment.

The IPPF framework provides a globally accepted rigorous basis for the operation of an Internal Audit function. Mandatory provisions are the subject of public exposure, with formal consideration of comments received from IIA members and non-members. The Standards help professions achieve greater clarity and consistency in their work, enhance professionalism, facilitate assessing, compliance with governmental regulations and licensure requirements, determine compensation for professional services, provide a framework for continuing education to maintain competency, develop licensing exams and assist regulatory boards with setting standards of practice in defined areas.

This seminar is geared towards highlighting key provisions of the IPPF that ought to be adhered to by Internal Audit Professionals in their day-to-day audit and consulting activities.
