THE INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA
(Established under the Accountants Act, Laws of Kenya)

GRANTS MANAGEMENT, COMPLIANCE, FINANCIAL REPORTING SEMINAR
Date: 22nd to 24th February 2023
Venue: Sawela Resort, Naivasha
Theme: Continuous Improvement to NPO sector compliance for accountability and transparency

OVERVIEW:

Non-Governmental Organizations and Not-for-profit organizations support various causes.  These causes differ based on the focus areas, legal and regulatory environment in which the entity operates, the conditions prescribed by the funders as well as the reporting standards in place. It is important for NPO/NGO to assess the impact of such environment will have on their mission, vision, test compliance issues and how this applies to their unique set up.

Generally, NGOs are focused on giving aid and support for further development regardless of the themes set out. NGOs may face challenges which they are not always prepared for. Some of the challenges faced by these entities include but not limited to:

Budget cuts, limited resources and political instability threaten the organizations hindering their mission and vision.

Projects maintenance: Most projects started by NGOs require constant maintenance for them to remain beneficial and relevant to the communities. Limited funding or budget cuts leading to no maintenance or delayed maintenance, lending the projects going to waste, leaving the communities more disgruntled and loss of livelihood.

Competition and lack of networking amongst the NGOs.  Most NGOs duplicating projects following operation in silos, leaving out very needy or easy to run/operate projects out.

Most of the donor funders are currently grappling with the effects of covid 19 hence experiencing funding constraints. This has affected the donor funded projects including planned startups.  As a going concern how will the NGOs navigate this impediment.

It is against this background that the Institute has organized the 2.5days seminar focusing on:

  • Introduction to grant management cycles
  • Understanding award and compliance with reference to multi-donor reporting
  • Budget management, costing and fund raising
  • Audit and close out of grant funded projects
  • Implementing effective internal control systems
  • Cash basis IPSAS and applicability for NPOs/NGOs
  • Contracts amendment: Regulatory
  • Mental wellness for professional in the NGOs /NPOs sectors
