OVERVIEW
A report is a short, sharp, concise document which is written for a particular purpose and audience. It generally sets outs and analyses a situation or problem, often making recommendations for future action. It is a factual paper and needs to be clear and well-structured.
Requirements for the precise form and content of a report will vary between organization and departments. In study, it varies between courses, from tutor to tutor, as well as between subjects, hence it is worth finding out if there are any specific guidelines before one commences writing the report.
A report must be well researched and contain information. If findings are not what is expected, the writer must discuss and analyze the differences in the report. Data or the findings must never be skewed, or an attempt made to fit the data to match what was originally thought. A report should be objective and accurate.
