Forensic Fraud &Internal Controls Workshop- Nyanza Branch
Theme: Combating Fraud in the digital era
Date: 14th -15th March 2024
Venue: Acacia Premier Hotel, Kisumu

OVERVIEW

Organizations in general are experiencing fraud in various ways such as tax fraud, credit card fraud, securities fraud, bankruptcy fraud and wire fraud.  The above-mentioned types of fraud have resulted in the firms experiencing massive financial losses. The accounting sector’s increase in digitalization has prompted an increase in the risk of fraud in various organizations. Forensic fraud examination plays a pivotal role in identifying, preventing, and responding to fraudulent activities, with the main aim of ensuring financial integrity by use of investigative techniques to detect and analyze fraudulent activities. Effective internal controls act as a preventative layer against fraudulent activities by Segregation of Duties that ensures a clear separation of duties preventing individuals from having too much control over a process, Implementation of strict authorization protocols for financial transactions and access to sensitive information and regular monitoring and reviewing of internal controls to identify and address weaknesses. Despite the enforcement of internal controls, the rate of fraud is still high as fraudsters have up their game. This workshop will address  the following:

  • Digital Forensic Investigations and Data Privacy: Overcoming the Challenge
  • Forensic investigations and data breaches (date protection laws)
  • Compliance and international data protection laws
  • Ethical guidance on Fraud and investigations
  • Amendments to the proceeds of crime act: what is required is required for accountability as reporting entities with financial reporting Centre (FRC)
