THE INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA
(Established under the Accountants Act, Laws of Kenya)

Forensic, Fraud and Internal Controls Workshop
Theme: Safeguarding organisations for effective performance
Date: 23rd – 24th August 2023
Venue: Online

Overview

As the accounting profession continues to evolve rapidly, there is an increased demand for their services in mitigation of the fraud risks that face organisations.  The enhanced use and application of technology and related automation advancements have seen an increase in fraud attacks on organisations leading to loss of assets and other resources.

With this rise of the threats and attacks by fraudsters, the accounting professionals have a critical role in designing and managing effective frameworks to mitigate and even predict fraud and related risks that face the organisations.  The board and management need to guide these efforts through effective fraud control policies and other measures that mitigate this risk and safeguard the existence and sustainability of their organisations.

Globally, it has been reported that digital payments around the world are growing as technology becomes more available across developing countries. As a result of this, fraud is shifting drastically from counterfeit card capabilities toward harder-to-identify fraud schemes.

Additionally, COVID-19 has not changed how fraud is committed but has shone a bright light on the risks of fraud in a digital age. Without technological and operational improvements, the global rise of digital fraud will surpass the losses associated with counterfeiting magnetic stripe payment cards.

Reports and studies being undertaken also indicate that payment and security executives in various countries have strong sentiments on how digital fraud has changed the global operating environment for financial institutions.  This thus requires a keener assessment of the modalities in play to mitigate this threat for organisations across various sectors.

It is against this background that the Institute has organized a two-day forum to discuss this critical risk that faces organizations and continues to evolve through sophisticated means employed by fraudsters and how accountants can play a role in mitigating the risk.  To guide the discussion during this Seminar, the following topics of discussion will form the focus of this very important event.

  1. Fraud and digital evidence processes.
  2. Forensic biometrics, forensic genetics and tracing evidence.
  • The mechanisms, process model and methodologies followed in digital forensics
