THE INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA
(Established under the Accountant Act, Laws of Kenya)

Financial Services Sector Conference – Recording
Date: 2nd- 3rd November 2022
Venue: Virtual
Time: 09.00am-03.30pm

OVERVIEW

As we emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic, the financial services industry sits at an inflection point where innovation is essential for growth. Technology is re-shaping the market and embedded finance has the power to make every company a fintech. Cryptocurrencies have spawned a parallel universe of alternative financial services. Insurance customers and retail banking clients expect ever more immersive and real-time digital experiences. Organizations have learned to transform processes at astonishing speed. Collective conscientiousness, social and moral responsibilities are being challenged in new ways.

The financial services sector provides financial services to people and corporations. This segment of the economy is made up of a variety of financial firms including banks, investment houses, lenders, finance companies, real estate brokers, and insurance companies. As noted above, the financial services industry is probably the most important sector of the economy, leading the world in terms of earnings and equity market capitalization. Large conglomerates dominate this sector, but it also includes a diverse range of smaller companies. For example, a payment system provider offers a financial service when it accepts and transfers funds between payers and recipients. This includes accounts settled through credit and debit cards, checks, and electronic funds transfers.

Cognizant of these factors of dynamism, the Institute has undertaken to tailor this year’s Financial Services Sector Conference towards stabilization and growth of the sector through comprehensive discussion of topics such as:

  • Financial developments and risks
  • Reviewing the Evolving Regulatory and Governance Hurdles, Challenges and Changes
  • The Future of Financing for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.
  • The Advent of Mobile Money – Implications on Financial Reporting and Audit Functions, Digital Credit
  • Improving Institutional Governance in Financial Services Sector
  • The Effect of Stringent Regulation on the Sector
  • Efficient Implementation of IFRS 9
  • Understanding the Interest Rates Capping Saga
  • The Role of Professionals in Countering Fraud in the financial sector
  • Technological Disruptions and Cyber Security
  • Implementation of IFRS 17
  • Reimaging the banking customer experience-Modern Money tools to create scaling customer centricity in financial services
