Financial Management for Higher Education Sector Workshop
Theme: “Accountability in Higher Education”
DATE: 20th -21st April 2017
VENUE: Hilton Hotel
TIME: 8am to 5pm
Higher education systems worldwide are currently faced with a number of challenges because many governments are seeking to reduce public expenditure on higher education, normally the most costly level of education. Governments are demanding greater efficiency, effectiveness and accountability in the management of higher education institutions. Given the decrease in funding for the sector, managing budgets within higher education context brings particular challenges and requires a unique understanding of how organisations operate and the financial systems which support their activities.
The education sector reforms and regulatory framework places new and increasingly heavy demands upon institutions, and particularly upon the management function, as they try to respond to diverse forces in the current and anticipated environment. With expansions in enrolments, building projects, faculty and staff numbers; financial management is mandatory and not an option for all institutions. Financial leaders in higher education sectors are turning their attention to finding ways toward solid, long-term financial stability. Even institutions with strong financial results are concerned about the long haul, and those already in financial straits must move with haste to regain financial health and avoid the risks of closure.
To address the salient financial management and reporting issues affecting this sector ICPAK has organized a two-day workshop focusing on the financial management and budgeting practices internal to institutions of higher education. This workshop will provide the delegates with expert knowledge on the practical challenges affecting higher education financial management in Kenya and guidance on compliance with both the regulatory and reporting requirements. Some of the issues that will be addressed include;
