With the rapid expansion of higher education in the country over the years, we continue to face a myriad of challenges including scarcity of facilities, inadequate financing, increasing competition and lately dwindling numbers as a result of lower KCSE pass rate. While the demand for higher education is not in doubt, the many institutions in the country have to strive to remain afloat despite the challenges being experienced.
The increasing scrutiny of quality for education serves to even worsen the operating environment for the education institutions. The institutions have to also adhere to several other regulatory requirements ranging from good corporate governance, transparency and accountability and other requirements requiring proper management of public resources.
This conference has been organized to discuss issues around the following key areas:
- Financial reporting – requirements of relevant legislation and standards
- Overcoming competition: exploring available options for education institutions
- Budgeting: role of councils/boards and the ministry
- Research and consultancy: opportunities and challenges
- A review of the audit issues raised by the Auditor General for education/training institutions
- Leveraging on ICT for prudent financial management
- Frauds and the role of internal auditors
- Relooking the non-profitability model: Is it time to review?
- The role of higher education institutions in the attainment of the vision 2030 and the big 4 agenda
- Mwongozo corporate governance guide and its applicability for education institutions
