Its members work in diverse sectors of the economy as accountants, financial experts, auditors and financial consultants. Over 800 of our members have emigrated and are working beyond the borders of Kenya. Members of the Institute are present in 41 different countries around the globe.

 ABOUT THE SUMMIT

The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) has a mandate bestowed upon it by the Accountants Act No.15 of 2008 – Laws of Kenya, to develop and regulate accountancy in Kenya. Additionally, as a member of International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), ICPAK has more responsibilities as outlined in various International Education Standards (IESs) for professional accountants and Statement of Member Obligations (SMOs) in maintaining lifelong learning among professional accountants. The Institute ensures lifelong learning through carrying out CPD trainings categorized as follows: Conferences, Seminars, Virtual Symposiums, Webinars, CPD Bytes and Videos, Online Exams, Certifications, Master Classes and in house customized trainings.

As part of its efforts to fulfil the above objectives, ICPAK has revamped its CPD offering with an aim of imparting deep technical expertise to its members and non-members alike. This is implemented through the Annual CPD Calendar which has enabled the Institute to roll out various new innovative courses in 2021 and 2022. In line with the innovation road map, the Institute has packaged intensive technical courses for senior executives that will be rolled out in a two-week cluster period. The Executive Leadership Course has been designed to address specific leadership needs faced by senior executives in their day-to-day life. Senior executives are faced with a unique challenge of rising to the occasion in the face of disruptions as witnessed during the pandemic and thus their leadership skills ought to be dynamic and ready for such transformational times as these.

The Executive Leadership Summit is a premier two-week seminar hosted by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) with the goal of congregating senior corporate and public sector leaders for candid conversations on emerging trends and challenges faced by their organizations. Now on its 2nd edition, the seminar has successfully brought together leaders to network and share ideas on leadership, both at a corporate level and self-leadership skills for success in modern times. The summit also gives participants a chance to network and carry out group discussions and practical case studies as a way of inculcating the lessons learnt in a more practical way. This strategy has resulted in the transformation of leaders’ perspectives and a steering towards embracing innovative and effective solutions to common challenges facing the continent and world at large.

THE SUMMIT’S FOCUS: LEADERSHIP BY DESIGN: EMBRACING CHANGE AND TRANSOFRMATION IN MODERN TIMES.

Leadership, both as a research area and as a practical skill, encompasses the ability of an individual, group or organization to lead, influence or guide other individuals, teams, or entire organizations. Throughout history, great leaders have emerged with leadership styles in providing direction, implementing plans and motivating people. These can be broadly grouped into 5 different categories such as Authoritarian Leadership, Participative Leadership, Delegative Leadership, Transactional Leadership and Transformational Leadership. Despite these definitions, most leaders still struggle with the meaning of each leadership style mentioned above, the difference between each leadership approach as well as the advantages and disadvantages of each style. This conference will explore each of these styles and provide an avenue for leaders to discuss on the best approach to take in leading their teams.

All leadership styles serve a purpose depending on the situation, type of organization or industry, and the personalities of the leadership and employees involved. The best approach is to become familiar with all leadership styles and understand the applications of each style. You will likely have a default style of leadership that you naturally exhibit or turn to. However, it is important that you are flexible in how you lead others. To understand when to employ each type of leadership style it is essential to develop your ability to diagnose needs, communicate effectively, and be flexible in how you make decisions and interact with others.

Leadership in business is the capacity of a company’s management to set and achieve challenging goals, take fast and decisive action when needed, outperform the competition, and inspire others to perform at their highest levels. Leadership also speaks to a more holistic approach, such as the tone of an organization or the culture that management establishes. Individuals with strong leadership skills in the business world often rise to executive positions.

Effective leadership includes exhibiting a strong character. Leaders exhibit honesty, integrity, trustworthiness, and ethics. Leaders act in line with how they speak and earn the right to be responsible for others’ success in the organization. Strong leadership involves clear communication skills. Leaders speak with and listen to staff members, respond to questions and concerns, and are empathetic. Leaders use effective communication skills for moving the company forward and achieving new levels of success.

In view of the dilemmas leaders face and the changing times, the Institute had put together topics that would act to shed light and provide a platform for leaders to share lessons and interact with each other as they sharpen their self-leadership skills and in turn grow in their leadership practices.

The sessions will utilize various learning methods such as presentations, case studies, group works, illustrations, videos, demonstrations, questions & answers among others, including an online quiz that will be administered at the end of the course. Successful attendees will be awarded physical certificates of proficiency in the specific subject matter.
