THEME: RAISING THE BAR IN AUDITORS SKEPTICIM
Overview
Professional skepticism is relevant and necessary throughout all assurance engagements. Professional skepticism enables the auditor to be alert to conditions that may indicate possible misstatement due to error or fraud, and a critical assessment of evidence. However, there has been a renewed international focus in recent years on whether auditors apply adequate professional skepticism upon examining key areas of financial accounting and disclosure.
In the wake of increased audit failures ICPAK has organized a two day workshop to address how auditors can raise the bar in professional skepticism. This will be through a selection of well selected topics including regaining public confidence and maintaining public trust; professional skepticism and its application; understanding the entity and assessing risk and internal control design; aspects requiring increased professional skepticism; materiality and professional skepticism and auditing estimates and subjective accounting information.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the workshop participants will:
- Understand professional skepticism and how to apply the attitude when evaluating audit evidence, performing audit procedures, and making client inquiries.
- Appreciate the need to and apply skepticism when auditing materiality.
- Gain skills on assessing an entity’s business environment and internal controls.
- Appreciate and apply audit objectives for estimates and other subjective accounting information.
Target Audience
Auditors, preparers of IFRS financial statements, accountants not directly responsible for financial statement preparation, audit committee members of public and private entities that require a reasonable knowledge of IFRS and Academicians.
