DATA ANALYTICS, DATA PRIVACY AND REPORT WRITING WORKSHOP
Date: 15th to 17th February 2023
Venue: Raddison Blu, Nairobi (Upper Hill)

OVERVIEW

The role of digital technologies, automation and data analytics is becoming increasingly important for finance professionals. These technologies present the opportunity to assist and develop roles and functions in the accountancy and finance industry. In other words, technology has revolutionized work methods as a result of which, the paper which was used as a substrate for writing the work upon it has now been replaced by an electronic substrate. The changes created by technology include the use of Blockchain, IoT (Internet of Things), Cloud Accounting and Big Data to do accounting in automated form. The rapid development of Technology and its extensive uses has prompted every organization to use new software which in turn has increase productivity.

Analytics is the systematic computational analysis of data or statistics. It is used for the discovery, interpretation, and communication of meaningful patterns in data. It also entails applying data patterns toward effective decision-making. It can be valuable in areas rich with recorded information; analytics relies on the simultaneous application of statistics, computer programming, and operations research to quantify performance. Organizations may apply analytics to business data to describe, predict, and improve business performance. Specifically, areas within analytics include descriptive analytics, diagnostic analytics, predictive analytics, prescriptive analytics, and cognitive analytics. Analytics may apply to a variety of fields such as marketing, management, finance, online systems, information security, and software services. Since analytics can require extensive computation, the algorithms and software used for analytics harness the most current methods in computer science, statistics, and mathematics.

Blockchain technology is slowly redefining the way financial records are kept by allowing secure shared access and updating of records by multiple users departing from the earlier approach of centralized custody for all financial records. The rise of cloud accounting technology has allowed the Accountancy profession to partner with the clients in ways that initially looked impossible. The emergence and development of technology are some of the critical arguments that support a paradigm shift in audit missions. The audit of the future is likely to have much less human-to-human interaction related to highly repetitive and rules-based tasks. Interface tools could be used to automatically share information in real time with the external auditor’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool(s), which in turn could analyze, test and flag anomalies or issues that require the auditor’s attention. To meet the market expectations, Audit professionals and Accountants will be forced to be digitally compliant in all operations.

The Data Analytics, Data Privacy and Report Writing Workshop seeks to showcase how emerging technologies will improve the Accountancy Profession by covering the following topical areas:

  1. Key steps in data analytics
  2. Basics of Python and R- Programming, data visualization techniques
  3. Utilization of data analytics in reporting and trend management
  4. Overview of business intelligence (BI) tools and dashboards
  5. Developing business intelligence dashboard parameters for decision making
  6. Data privacy– Implementation of related technology and analytical tools

  8. The role of different players in organizational data protection

  10. Practical session– Preparing impactful power point presentations- use of visual representation tools e.g., Power user
