OVERVIEW
The Branch Regional Annual Summit is a yearly symposium for professionals from various sectors congregating to share practices and experiences on salient issues with their peers. The accountancy profession in Kenya has journeyed for over half a century from a less formal, unknown profession to a recognized and respectable role tasked with safeguarding public interest, accountants are not only responsible for proper financial management but also greatly contribute to the longevity of institutions. The Institute of Certified Public Accountants, ICPAK, as a regulator endeavors to develop the profession to world class standards and has made significant strides towards this goal.
In the current dynamic commerce landscape, the accountancy profession has faced the challenge of balancing between its professional standards mandate and being the societal driver for change and transformation across all spheres. The profession has been through noteworthy evolution in recent years as a response to changes in business practices, regulations, technology, and globalization. Some of the developments include the modernization of tax systems and new reporting standards. Public finance management reforms and devolution are further incidences which have altered the face of the profession in the country. Despite this dynamism, Kenya’s accountancy profession has continued to develop, becoming one of the biggest on the continent.
Ethics, in general the moral principles that guide our actions have been integrated into the profession and leadership forming the foundation of the corporate culture. Today, the accountancy profession boasts of having grown in influence and being strategically placed to be the voice of reason on financial matters in the country. While challenges still abound, the profession is firmly on a path to pre-eminence.
