Board Readiness and Corporate Governance Webinar
Date: 30th January 2024
Time: 04.00pm-06.00pm
Venue: Online
Overview
Boards of directors have a significant decision-making role in the corporate sector as well as other domains such as non-profit organizations and academia. They have the potential to actively contribute to enhancing diversity, inclusiveness, and sustainability by leading and developing an organization’s long-term vision.
Corporate boards are under mounting pressure to increase the diversity of their ranks, including more women and minorities, as well as executives from diverse cultural and functional backgrounds, to better represent the people who work for and service their firms. Meanwhile, the threshold for “board readiness” has never been higher: directors are under scrutiny for their capacity to understand highly complex organizations, exhibit technical know-how, carry out effective governance, and achieve long-term success that is sustainable.
When individuals or professionals are appointed to serve in boards, the critical question that needs to be addressed is if they are ready to serve. A mere acceptance of the appointment does not amount to board readiness, it goes further to demand of the board members to make deliberate efforts to be in the right shape to serve. Understanding the nature and business of the organization, operating environment and regulatory compliance issues are just a few of the issues board members need to be abreast of.
To be of value to an organization, a board member will need to posses functional knowledge of the following key aspects:
- Financial Intelligence
- Relational Intelligence
- Strategic Intelligence
- Cultural Intelligence
- Role Intelligence
In recognition of this, ICPAK has organized the webinar to highlight what current executives and those considering board positions could do to continue upholding the corporate governance mantra.4
