The Professional Accountant in Contemporary Times
Overview
There is an increasing demand world over for accountants to be more ethical and observe standards of practice. This is more prominent in Kenya especially with public funds having been devolved to the counties. This calls for more accountability and members of ICPAK are required to surpass the set standards of practice with ease. It is in this cognizance that ICPAK has organized this seminar to focus on:
A. Professional Ethics for Accountants
A distinguishing mark of the accountancy profession is its acceptance of the responsibility to act in the public interest. Therefore, a professional accountant’s responsibility is not exclusively to satisfy the needs of an individual client or employer but to act ethically and be seen to be ethical. With the devolved county units of administration, the urge to be more accountable and ethical has generated direct implications on the role of accountants as a whole. The circumstances in which professional accountants operate may give rise to specific threats to compliance with the fundamental principles. Although it may be impossible to define every situation that creates such threats and specify the appropriate mitigating action, the professional ethics provide a reference point when faced with such.
B. Healthy Lifestyle: Keeping cancer at bay
Cancer is deadly and stubborn. It is not a single disease with a single cause; there’s more to it than eating a poor diet or getting overweight. Other contributors include environmental factors like pollutants, radiation and toxic contaminants, smoking, gene variants, age, and certain infections. Members will be enlightened on careful lifestyle choices that can help keep cancer at bay no matter the family history.
C. Paying the Bills: Side jobs
The world today is evolving extremely fast and it is becoming increasingly more difficult to get ‘well paying’ jobs in this difficult economy. On the other hand technology is quickly consuming a large part of the job market. The benefits of working a second job are great. Extra income to help pay off debt or save is fantastic. Members will be taken through how they can get their hands into that side job and gain financial security.
The event will take place on 15th December 2015 at Kenya Comfort Hotel, Nairobi. Charges are Kshs 3,450. 7 CPD Hours will be allocated to members in attendance
