THE INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA
(Established under the Accountant Act, Laws of Kenya)
Anti Money Laundering: Key Policy Considerations, Audit & Risk Assessments
Date: 7th July 2021
Venue: Webinar
OVERVIEW
Money laundering is the funneling of cash or other funds generated from illegal activities
through legitimate financial institutions and businesses to conceal the source of the funds.
The accountancy profession around the world is playing a key role in combating corruption,
with a new emphasis on ferreting out and investigating “Politically Exposed Persons” (PEPs),
money laundering, fraud, and related financial crime. At the same time, the profession is
promoting privacy and other forms of consumer protection compliance by advising,
auditing, or attesting to compliance self-disclosures, ensuring the anti-money laundering
policies are adhered to and reporting illegal acts.
Anti-money laundering policies typically require most entities that complete financial
transactions to keep thorough records of their clients’ accounts and activities. If they come
across any information that appears to be suspicious, they are required to report it to the
government for further investigation.
