THE INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA
(Established under the Accountant Act, Laws of Kenya)
Accountants Professional Ethics Forum
Date: 17th – 18th October, 2019
Venue: Hotel Sapphire, Mombasa
Brief
Professional ethics is business is paramount and more so in the Accounting profession where the end user of information and services has to place trust in the professionals. Lack of ethics poses a great risk to businesses and economies. The situation in Kenya is a practical example of an economy greatly troubled by unethical practices which have siphoned public coffers and burdened taxpayers. Additionally, companies have lost their reputations and business resulting in loss of jobs for many.
While the issue of professional ethics is not new in the Kenya yet business and public sector cultures seems to be increasingly tolerant of unethical practices. Professional accountants today constantly struggle with ethical dilemmas such as lack of independence in practice, conflict of interest, falsified financial reports, and facilitating or receiving bribes. Even the most ethical ones are sometimes driven into accepting these evils due to fear of losing opportunities or even their lives.
ICPAK’s awareness of the distinct charge on the accountancy profession to act in the public interest has advised the organization of a two-day thought-provoking forum where professionals will discuss:
- Key highlights on the King 4 report
- Non-compliance with Laws and Regulations – Response Framework
- Building an Ethical Organisation and Capability Among Professionals
- Role of the accountant in sustainable governance
- Ethics and anti-corruption commission – its role
- Laws, regulations and bills under discussion and best practice
- Practical Application of International Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants
- Integrity in Public Expenditure Processes
