Overview
Recent changes in the CMA regulations on corporate governance as well as the Companies Act, 2015 require a high level of professionalism for a reporting accountant and those charged with governance. The risk and penalties for non-compliance necessitates the need to ensure all accountants are well informed.
ICPAK’s as well as IFAC’s code of Ethics remain vital in ensuring compliance standards are kept at a high level and maintained at levels beyond reproach. This workshop will be a refresher on professional ethics expected of accountants and also provide guidance on audit quality framework.
The purpose of this forum is for participants to exercise their critical thinking skills, apply the professional judgement process and understand risk assessment activities applicable to accountants in line with respective regulations that govern the Accounting profession applicable to Kenya.
Objectives of the Forum
- The code of Ethics – An overview of professional ethics; ICPAK requirements, IFAC Regulations, Companies Act and CMA requirements
- Audit Quality – Framework for audit quality, Elements for audit quality, Players in audit quality and their interactions, The review process, Involvement of Engagement Quality Review Partner (EQCR) and other reviewers
- Risk Management – Professional risk management process, Auditor independence requirements, Threats to independence, Dealing with independence issues identified.

Events of 2015 and economic shake-up in the banking sector together with reported cases of fraud or suspected fraud significantly impacted and touched on accountants. The need to ensure all accountants conduct their businesses with a high level of professionalism and ethical consideration remains a priority for all accountants.
Quality of work, as well as compliance with the ethical requirements in the various legislations and regulations is paramount. This forum will give you an opportunity to receive an update on highlights of the ethical requirements and quality framework that will give you the credibility expected in the market as well as security against associated professional risks on ethical maters.

5.0 National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) Reimbursement
The Institute is registered as a trainer with National Industrial Training Authority. The Institute’s registration number is DIT/TRN/47. Participants who are registered levy contributors should apply to NITA for reimbursement of their fees. Please note that this is applicable for Kenyan citizens only and subject to NITA regulations.
