Ethics in Financial Reporting and Governance: Reality Check
Overview
The growing in number of accounting professionals in Kenya is laudable. However growth comes with great expectations and challenges. Notable and most visible among the expectations and challenges is the issue of ethics in the financial reporting and governance. It is sad to note that accounting firms and professionals that were looked upon as the guardians of integrity in financial dealings have now been exposed in violation of the fiduciary responsibilities entrusted to them by their stakeholders. The question that many are asking is what is the profession doing to redeem its image and is there a complete failure in governance structures. Could better governance and oversight be the solution to the increasing ethical disgraces?
