THE INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA
(established under the Accountant Act, Laws of Kenya)
Annual Practical Ethics Training
DATE: 28th July, 2017
VENUE: Nairobi Safari Club, Lilian Towers.
TIME: 8am to 5pm
Background
Contemporary research studies have shown that individuals will further their own self-interest over that of the organization, given the right opportunity. For ethical behavior, there is a shift from individual motivation to the influence of the formal and informal control systems of an organization. The dominance of the informal system varies from one institution to the other. It is therefore easier for institutions to blame an employee for wrong doing than to identify problems within and initiate appropriate alterations to correct the wrongs.
To dialogue on current and emerging ethical issues within organizations, ICPAK has organized a one-day training to focus on the following learning objectives:
- Incorporating Ethics into the Organization
Doing unethical business? Moral vs ethical considerations.
Obeying the law and spirit of the law in business operations.
Articulating a holistic value system as a key component corporate strategy.
Incorporating employee development into strategy through ethics training.
- Ensuring that corporate values are a reflection of actual behavior, especially among the organization’s leadership.
Non-reliance of auditors, ethics & compliance officers, regulations, manuals, among other controls, as the vehicle to incorporate ethics into strategy.
Differentiating between what is right (legal) and doing the right thing (ethical).
Emphasizing principles more than rules as a way to be more demanding of the organization.
Individual ethical responsibility and accountability as a means of raising the corporate bar.
- Resolution of ethical issues in the Organization
Framework and process for the resolution of ethical issues.
Having the right organizational structure as a means of addressing ethical challenges within the organization.
Incorporating a reward based system premised on the right metrics.
