April 15, 2016 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Overview:

The Budget Statement FY 2015, proposed to review the Income Tax Act in a bid to, among other things, simplify payments to the revenue authority, remove exemptions and broaden the tax base to net in more taxpayers with a view to increasing annual state revenues. It further proposed the introduction of a Tax procedure bill assented into law on 15th December and effected through a legal notice appointing 19th January 2016 as the commencement date These tax reforms, together with the various provisions contained in the Finance Act 2015 are intended to enhance the collection of revenue particularly for the largely untapped low end segment of the market.

Over 40 % of the tax collection in Kenya is generated from direct taxes. The marginal increase in the proportion of Income tax as a percentage of tax revenue is reflective of the minimal policy initiatives implemented to reform the income tax regime in Kenya. This workshop intends to highlight the critical areas that require reform within the Income Tax regime, while exposing participants to the changing landscape surrounding the collection of income taxes in Kenya.
