FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP FOR SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES
31ST – 1ST APRIL 2016
MERIDIAN HOTEL, NAIROBI
THEME: DRIVING SME GROWTH THROUGH AN EVOLVING FINANCE MANAGEMENT FUNCTION
Overview:
Small and Medium firms (SMEs) are important for future economic development and for the continued evolution of a modern, knowledge-based economy. An important key to the successful development and survival of small and medium firms is the role of financial management. In today’s fast-changing world, the requirements for a firm’s finance function have significantly grown. A growing number of firms are facing tough competition already in the early stages of their lifecycle. As competition becomes more diverse, the geographical scope has broaden, and information technology become more sophisticated, and therefore navigating in this environment calls for deeper understanding of a company’s strongholds, and planning and monitoring operations on more granular level than before.
A solid fact-based understanding of the company’s financial performance is crucial for good decision-making. The development of the finance function is not the result of business growth, but one of its causes. The combination of formal business planning, regular management reporting and the use of financially trained staff is a prerequisite to a mode of rapid growth that does not jeopardize the survival and longevity of the business.
