Tax Amnesties: Opposite Sides of the Same Story
Governments of all kinds have frequently and increasingly turned to tax amnesties as part of their fiscal programs. An amnesty typically allows individuals or firms to pay delinquent taxes without being subject to some or all of the financial and criminal penalties that the discovery of tax evasion normally brings. Recently Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) issued a one-year amnesty to rental income tax defaulters as it targets to collect over 3 billion Ksh. this financial year. County governments on the other side are giving waivers of penalties to rate defaulters. On the opposite end honest taxpayers are questioning the special treatment to tax evaders.
This end of year professional forum will bring together key parties to tax amnesties directives and critically analyze through an open interactive discussion the impact of these amnesties on tax collections, tax payers’ future tax compliance status as it questions the usefulness of this controversial revenue-raising policy instrument.
Target group: Accounting and other professionals, tax consultants, tax payers, national and county government staff, Associate members, KRA representative, consumer bodies’ representative and the general public.
The forum will be held on Wednesday, 11th November, 2015 at the Hilton Hotel, Nairobi from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm.
Charges: Kshs. 2,000 ICPAK both members and non members. 3 CPD Hours will be awarded to members in attendance.
