THE ANNUAL TAX CONFERENCE
23rd – 25th SEPTEMBER 2015
SAROVA WHITESANDS BEACH HOTEL, MOMBASA
Theme: Harnessing Innovation for Improved Tax Administration
Introduction
The cost of citizenship is the tax we pay so that government can provide the common good services. Often times we hear repeatedly that as a nation we are among the highly taxed people, other concerns have been why the collection on VAT which is a consumption tax remains low as compared to other tax revenues. Discussions on the breadth of coverage for tax purposes is also a matter that remains key on the agenda as has been the journey towards modernization in the administration of taxes in Kenya. Matters taxation definitely attracts passionate discussion among the accountancy and legal professions with their attendant impact on business and citizenry. The taxman has been quick to impose penalties and fines to enhance compliance but voices are now getting louder on the need to have the Tax Payers Charter. The tax payer is crying out for his rights and a common ground is needed so that both the collector and the payer work together in harmony for the benefit of our country. It is in line with these aspirations that ICPAK has organized a colloquium to review the terrain on tax administration for the last one year, discuss and make resolutions to inform tax management in the coming years.
