THEME: SEAMLESS TRANSITIONING OF ASSETS
Devolution in Kenya seeks to bring government closer to the people, and make county governments the focus of political power and economic resources at the grassroots. The management of human and physical resources is a critical requisite for effective implementation of a devolved system of government. As the devolution journey takes off recommendations have been made on the criteria to determine the transfer of previously shared assets and liabilities of government and local authorities. Creating an asset register for each county government through the process of an in depth and comprehensive audit of central and local government assets is a vital process in asset management. The register guides the tracking and verification of all assets owned and liabilities incurred by each county government for purposes of accountability. A number of challenges have been experienced in jumpstarting this process. It is in light of this that ICPAK has organized this workshop to create a forum for sharing problems as well as solutions and to discuss about strategies, best practices and tools in the area of Asset and Maintenance Management. The workshop is aimed at providing delegates with the practical knowledge to implement and maintain an effective, efficient asset management function within their institutions.
By the end of the training the delegates will:
- Understand the fundamental concepts and core practices in asset management.
- Prepare a current state of asset register.
