(Established under the Accountant Act, Laws of Kenya)

Branch Tax Seminar
Theme: supporting net-zero efforts and tax considerations
Date: 14th _ 15th March 2024
Time: 8.00am – 4:00pm
Venue: Royal Suites Hotel -Bungoma

OVERVIEW

The taxation landscape has been evolving rapidly in the recent past with the legal framework of tax regulations changing to accommodate the developments in this critical area of the economy.  The government generates its revenues largely through taxes imposed on its citizens.  In the recent past, the government has sought to initiate new taxes and levies to meet the development objectives and priorities of the country.

Taxes in Kenya are categorized under two main heads: direct and indirect taxes. The indirect statutory taxes in Kenya apply when the purchase of goods is made. The various taxes under this banner are excise duty, custom duty & levies, and Value Added Tax (VAT).  On the other hand, income tax falls under the direct taxes in Kenya.

All these categories of tax have been affected in one way or the other though directives which have recently been issued by the government, and through amendments contained in the Finance Acts which are prepared annually.

To understand the latest developments and expected taxation trends arising from government proposals, the Institute has organized this two-day seminar to promote this awareness and provide a deeper understanding of the tax landscape in Kenya.

The key areas below will guide the discussion during this important two-day branch seminar.
i. Income Tax in Kenya and proposed changes
ii. Emerging trends in international taxation
iii. The VAT Act in Kenya and recent developments
iv. Understanding the Customs Act and Excise Duty
v. Emerging trends in accounting for taxation – PAYE, Withholding Tax and other taxes
vi. The National Tax Policy updates and benefits to the country
vii. Understanding Transfer Pricing and required documentation.
