THE 7th BOARD MASTERCLASS
Theme: Effective Boards for Championing Enhanced Organizational Value
Date: 15th – 19th April 2024
Venue: Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort & Spa, Mombasa

OVERVIEW

Evolving market dynamics, globalization, and the growing dimension and complexity of organizations are making the position of boards vital to the enterprise’s overall viability. Boards must cope with a slew of new expectations, challenges, and risks, demanding the greatest degree of corporate governance and effective performance in their roles. Whether it is meeting regulatory requirements, financial resilience, shareholder value maximization, risk management, or executive team leadership concerns, these dynamics present multi-faceted challenges to any contemporary organization’s leadership no matter how experienced they may be.

One of the most important roles of board members is ensuring that their organization’s finances are in order. Board members serve as trustees for the assets of the organization and must undertake due diligence to ensure that the organization is well-managed and that its financial status is sound. Accountability for an effective board extends beyond financial performance and sustainability. It encompasses the board members’ collective and individual intents and conduct. The board of directors is the setter and custodian of performance standards, the foundation builder, the developer and manager of corporate strategic plans, and the initial owner of the company vision and mission. The board of directors guides the organization toward its objective, ensures financial stability, and serves as the public face of the entity.

The 5-Day Master Class is geared to provide a platform for discussions on what works and what does not as lined up in each of the 5 modules as indicated below. This Master Class is intended to equip new and current board members with the prerequisite knowledge on the roles of the board, strategy formulation, alignment and review, risk management and the role of the board amongst other areas. The Master Class will also offer an avenue for networking with other board members drawn from both public and private sectors.
