OVERVIEW
Debt management is the process of creating and executing a strategy for managing a government debt in order to raise the required amount of funding, achieve its risk and cost objective and meet other debt management goals that government institutions or organizations may have set ie developing and maintaining an efficient market for government securities.
Over time Kenya has increased her public debt, today debts repayments account for a significant part of the revenue collected. The debate on sustainability of loans has been on going. The Kenyan constitution requires public participation before public resources are spent but no meaningful public engagement ever happens before public borrowing. Today the lending market is more liberal resulting in mushrooming mobile lending applications, allowing more people to qualify for loans with minimal requirements.
Regulation of interest rates has led to reduced lending to the private sectors, lenders prefer lending to the government due to their lower risk greatly affecting private sector growth and expansion.
Based on the above ICPAK has organized the Debt Management Seminar with the following areas:
- Introduction to Debt Management
- Lending risks analysis
- Development of credit acceptance policies
