THE INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA
(Established under the Accountants Act, Laws of Kenya)

The Working Capital Management Conference – Recording
Date: 3rd – 4th May 2023
Time: 9.00am-3.30pm
Venue: Online

Overview

Efficient and sustainable working capital optimization generally enhances the efficiency of a company’s business and ensures profitability and overall financial health for businesses. It can increase capital turnover, improve cash liquidity, and return on investment. Working capital management can also be optimized, for example, in exceptional situations of a company or the general economic situation, in which case there is a clear change in the company’s cash flow.

Working capital management is a business strategy designed to ensure that a company operates efficiently by monitoring and using its current assets and liabilities to their most effective use. Management of working capital sometimes becomes more important than the management of long-term funds because the day-to-day operations of any business largely depend upon this source of finance. Many firms have been seen in the past closing down for the want of short-term finance. The profitability of any business to a larger extent is affected by this source of finance due to efficient management of current assets and current liabilities. Hence, learning about managing working capital has become more important and critical in the modern world.

This Working Capital Management workshop will provide not just the theory but also the practical tool kit you will need to supercharge the working capital and cash flow engine that is at the very heart of business performance and strength. There is no question that profit is a key component of long-term success and growth but business history is littered with the names of profitable companies that collapsed through lack of cash resources. Not only is cash the essential fuel that keeps the engine running–modern economic theory recognizes cash flow as being the key driver of business and shareholder value.

It is against this backdrop that the Institute has organized a two-day virtual workshop to comprehensively cover the principles of effective working capital and cash flow management and will also provide an extensive toolkit of practical methodologies for optimizing each of the components of working capital and managing the other key drivers of business cash flow. The following key areas shall form the basis of discussion during this important virtual conference;

  • Definition and in-depth discussion on the key components and techniques of optimizing the components of Working Capital
  • Fundamentals of accounting for cash and working capital
  • Understanding the drivers of cash flow, liquidity and solvency
  • Managing and improving operating cash flows
  • Business funding and capital structure
  • Principles of capital investment decision-making
  • Advanced techniques for cash flow forecasting
  • Development of strategies to reduce costs and improve operating cash flows
  • Cash flow presentation as per IFRS/IAS
  • Managing tax implications on liquidity and WCM
