Overview
The Kenya Revenue Authority introduced ETR (Electronic tax registers) machines in 2005 as a record keeping tool to capture the details of sales transactions by VAT registered taxpayers. In order to better streamline VAT administration, introduced the electronic tax invoice which will be achieved through the implementation of the Tax Invoice Management System (TIMS). The system will enable automatic reporting of tax invoice transactions. The overall objective is to increase: VAT compliance, minimize VAT fraud and increase tax revenue as well as make tax filling and remission easier for businesses.
The e TIMS is set to complement The TIMS which is handled through the ETR machines and have real time transmission of invoices through the eTIMS software.
