Introduction
Artificial intelligence, usually abbreviated AI, refers to the ability of machines and systems to mimic human intelligence. These machines and systems can often improve their capabilities based on the information they collect, a trait referred to as machine learning.
The use of AI has transformed many industries including healthcare, banking and retail, providing accurate output which sometimes supersedes human abilities. It has greatly improved levels of customization of products, shortened processes for delivery and reduced cost of operations. To ensure future success, companies are now being advised to re-strategize and consider artificial intelligence as a means of reaching their objectives.
The accounting and finance fields have been affected by AI, which provides in-depth insight through data analysis and significantly reduces the time spent to complete tasks. Increased productivity and efficiency will leave professionals with the time needed to provide counsel to clients and build relationships with them.
Artificial intelligence cannot completely replace human input with roles such as advisory and decision making, requiring human intervention. Accountants and finance professionals therefore need to earn the skills required to work with AI. This could be through analyzing output from machines and making decisions based on them. It could also be by providing insight and advisory services.
