THE INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA
(Established under the Accountant Act, Laws of Kenya)
Emerging Tax Issues & Tax Compliance Workshop
Date: 8th – 9th October, 2019
Venue: Kyaka Hotel, Machakos
Brief
The famous quote by Benjamin Franklin (1789) “in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes” is evident in Kenya now more than ever before. The local and national governments are out to raise revenue and meet their targets and this has resulted in the search for a wider tax basis.
The last couple of years have seen the taxman institute major changes in the tax system in Kenya. For instance, turnover tax has been replaced by presumptive tax, impacting small and medium size traders in the country. Excise Duty has also been revised upwards on services such as money transfer by banks and financial services institutions. Further, the iTax system continues to be advanced to aid in self-reporting by tax payers.
As custodians of an organization’s financial stability, accountants, finance professionals and management have the responsibility to possess adequate knowledge and skills in tax matters to enable them dispense their duties. To this end, ICPAK has organized the Emerging Tax Issues & Tax Compliance Workshop to address areas such as:
- Updates from the Finance Act, 2019
- Amendments to the VAT Act – Miscellaneous Amendments Act of 23rd July 2019
- Taxation of the digital economy – what should practitioners be aware of?
- Managing KRA enquiries in light of the recent surge in legacy assessments
- Basics of Transfer Pricing and what taxpayers should watch out for
- Overview of Double Tax Avoidance Agreements – A Global Perspective
