THE INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA
(established under the Accountant Act, Laws of Kenya)
The 6th Evening Talk
Topic: Who Am I: The Self-awareness Continuum
Date: 7th August 2019
Venue: Hilton, Nairobi
Time: 5.30pm – 7.30pm
Overview
JoyBell C. once said “the person in life that you will always be with the most is yourself – because even when you are with others, you are still with yourself, too!”
This statement points to the importance of knowing oneself also known as self-awareness. The practice of self-awareness is one of the greatest skills in life because it enables you to learn about yourself in a way no one else can ever teach you. It teaches a person how to manage oneself and how to have a productive engagement with others.
Empirical research suggests that with this skill, we are empowered in the following ways:
- We see ourselves clearly,
- We are more confident and more creative,
- We make sounder decisions, build stronger relationships, and communicate more effectively,
- We’re less likely to lie, cheat, and steal,
- We have a higher level of emotional intelligence,
- We are better workers who get more promotions and
- We’re more-effective leaders with more-satisfied employees and more-profitable companies.
