FINANCIAL REPORTING & MANAGEMENT SEMINAR FOR THE AGRICULTURE SECTOR
Theme: “Agriculture in the Region: Untying Facts from Myths”
Venue: Nyeri
Date: Please note that the Seminar has been rescheduled to a later date
Overview
No region of the world has developed a diverse modern economy without first establishing a successful foundation in agriculture. Contributing significantly in the region’s economic growth, the agriculture sector in Kenya has gone through a momentous evolution in the recent past. Deliberate effort to transform this sector that employs the majority and holds the greatest promise for economic prosperity is critical. In Kenya for instance, despite expenditure of billions of dollars on agricultural development, most farmers continue to harvest dismally, exposing them to subsistence existence. Policy analysts argue that the future of farming is not agriculture but agribusiness. As a region, have we embraced this to harness the underlying opportunities? As a people, have we fully incorporated agricultural research, development, and extension? The African Centre for Economic Transformation (ACET) advises that focusing on the entire value chain would help transform food systems around the continent; positioning farming as a business and entrepreneurial endeavor.
