THE INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA
(Established under the Accountant Act, Laws of Kenya)
Financial Reporting for the Agricultural Sector, South Rift Branch
Date: 3rd – 4th May, 2018
Venue: Taidys Hotel – Kericho
Introduction
Agriculture has been proven to be a profitable endeavour in many areas of the world, and in Africa it sits at the top of many countries’ development agendas. In Kenya, there is an increasing interest and inflow of investment into the agriculture value chain, with younger generations venturing into the sector as a way of seeking alternative income. These developments call for improved financial reporting to ensure proper management, decision making and increased profitability.
Unfortunately, the role of financial reporting in the agricultural sector can be daunting due to the sector’s complexity and the uncertainties that engulf it such as changing weather patterns. This, coupled with the trend from subsistence farming to agribusiness, necessitates sensitization on financial reporting in agriculture. This year the Financial Reporting Workshop for the Agricultural sector will focus on:
- Management Accounting in Agriculture- conversion of financial statements for decision making
- Budgeting and Cash Flow Management in the Face of Uncertainty
- IAS 16/ IPSAS 17 – Property Plant and Equipment in relation to Agriculture
- IAS 41/IPSAS 47 Implementation – Illustrated
- Taxation in the Agricultural Sector – Key Considerations
