BOARD AUDIT COMMITTEE TRAINING

Venue: Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, Arusha – Tanzania
1.0 PREVIEW
The demand for accountability, transparency, effectiveness and efficiency in allocation and utilization of resources within organizations through good corporate governance is increasing now than ever before. Creation of Audit Committees in public, private, non-governmental entities across the globe is a basic corporate governance requirement and expectation. In some jurisdictions, it is anchored in corporate governance codes while in others it is provided for in law. In Kenya, the PFMA 2012 and Audit Committee Regulations 2015 thereof, provided guidelines for creation and operationalization of Audit Committee for all National Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies as well as County Governments Executive and Assemblies. Most entities have since complied with these provisions with entities outside government also benchmarking on this good practice.
However, key concerns have arisen;
- How relevant, effective, efficient and viable are Audit Committees?
- What is the relationship between the Committees, and key stakeholders?
- Are the committees meeting the expectations of key stakeholders?
- Is the operating environment too turbulent, dynamic and complex for the Audit Committees and the Audit Function as a whole?
To respond to these and many other concerns, ICPAK has organized this three-day training to dialogue on the following thematic areas:
- Rationale for Audit Committees from a legal and corporate governance perspective
- Duties, functions, responsibilities and roles of audit committees
- Institutionalizing and operationalizing the Audit Committee: Audit Committee Charter, The Committee Almanac, meetings and capacity building.
- Appreciating the Audit cycle.
- Dovetailing and augmenting enterprise risk management, compliance, controls environment and Audit.
- Stakeholder Approach to Audit: The Audit Committee, Internal Auditor, External Auditor and Auditee linkage and relationship management.
- Contemporary corporate governance issues from an audit perspective: Fraud, Corruption, Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Crime
- The Value system; Ethics and Integrity.
- Handling group dynamics and other soft issues: Emotional intelligence, Blue Sky sessions, and Conflict management.
