Overview
An efficient and effective tax system guided by relevant principles leads to an optimal tax system. ICPAK has organized a two-day workshop to provide a platform on which tax practitioners, consultants and academicians will interactively engage and discuss key principles relating to personal and business taxation and their application alongside related emerging issues in Kenya. The two-day workshop offers a forum for participants to keep abreast with the increasing complexity of taxes and emerging issues in taxation
This workshop is designed to provide participants with the essentials of taxation and also give an intensive study of the current tax laws and regulations governing individuals, corporations and businesses.
Objectives
The aim of this workshop is to update the taxpayers’ knowledge on the tax principles in order for the tax payer (individual or company) to embrace compliance with the tax laws and pay the ‘right’ tax: By the end of the workshop delegates will have achieved the following objectives:
- Appreciate the principles related to personal and business taxation
- Understand the application of VAT principles in corporate transactions
- Understand the principles of cross border transactions
- Understand the emerging issues in taxation.
Discussion topics shall include:
- Progressive vs Regression models
- Taxation of Income vs Taxation of Capital- which of the two is economically sound?
- Taxation of Digital economy
- Inflation adjustment (indexation)
- Principles of Transfer Pricing
- A review of recent determinations of disputes by Tax Appeal Tribunal and emerging issues
Learning Outcomes
At the end of workshop, participants will:
- Have an appreciation of the basic applications of the taxation laws;
- Demonstrate an understanding of the various tax heads;
- Have an appreciation of the importance of taxation in business decisions; and
- Enhance ones’ foundation on tax matters with an aim to specialize in their respective areas of choice;
- Update on emerging trends in taxation

6.0 Workshop Travel and Accommodation Information (VERY IMPORTANT)
International and local delegates who will attend the event are advised to make their own preferred travel and accommodation arrangements to the event in advance- this is at delegates own cost
Delegates from other nationalities who want to attend are requested to check with their Kenyan Embassy/ High Commission for their travel requirements. We will assist with letters of invitation or any other confirmations that may be needed to facilitate issuance of VISAs

10.0 National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) Reimbursement
The Institute is registered as a trainer with National Industrial Training Authority. The Institute’s registration number is DIT/TRN/47. Participants who are registered levy contributors should apply to NITA for reimbursement of their fees. Please note that this is applicable for Kenyan citizens only and subject to NITA regulations. Remember that to qualify you should apply to NITA for approval prior to the date of the conference. Further details can be obtained from their website (www.nita.go.ke).
